Mrs. Vernon died Feb. 10, 2018, after a brief fight with cancer. She was born July 30, 1932, in Bend to Jack and Lucille Scott.

Mrs. Vernon moved to Killeen when she was 9 years old and graduated in 1950 with the first graduating class of Killeen High School at the former Rancier Jr. High location. She later went to work on Fort Hood for the Civil Service, working at Civilian Payroll, where she met her husband and best friend, Jack Vernon. They married Feb. 20, 1954.

Mrs. Vernon lived her life by giving her all to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Killeen. Jackie loved to dance, read, cook for anyone, and needlepoint. She also spent numerous hours in the stands watching sporting events of her grandchildren at the University of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Vernon, and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Vicki Vernon Davidson and husband Russell, and Scott Vernon and wife Michelle. She has five grandchildren: Carter Lauck, Cameron Lauck, Spike Davidson, Ethan Vernon and Alexandra Vernon.

The family is especially thankful for the love and excellent care given to their mom in her home by Lynn Milam.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
