Funeral services for James D. “Smitty” Smith Jr., 84, of Killeen, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Interment will follow at noon at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Smith was born June 13, 1929, in Vance County, N.C. He was raised and educated in Petersburg, Va. He retired from the U.S. Army with more than 20 years service and is a veteran of both Korea and Vietnam.

He married Benita Jean Johnson on Sept. 12, 1987, in Killeen.

Following his military retirement, he was service manager for many years at an auto dealership and later owned and operated Smitty’s Auto Repair. He also loved to buy and restore Mustang autos.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Smith, of Killeen; four sons: James Emmit Smith, of Round Rock, Shane Smith, Paul Johnson, of Mauriceville, and Andy Johnson, of Argyle; three daughters: Brenda Smith, of Liberty Hill, Sherry Hill, of Belton, and Louise Cosper, of Killeen, and their families, including 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen is in charge of arrangements.
