Funeral services for Ret. 1st Sgt. Leon “Sandy” Sanders, 74, of Copperas Cove, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pershing Park Baptist Church in Killeen.

Mr. Sanders died Nov. 23, 2017, at his home in Copperas Cove. He was born Feb. 21, 1943, in Ponta to Jim and Julia Sanders.

Mr. Sanders graduated from Kirkpatrick High School in 1961. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served and deployed twice to Vietnam for over 20 years before retiring. He married his wife Yong Cha in 1968 in South Korea. Shortly after retiring, he began working at Fort Hood at Range Support and retired from there after over 25 years of faithful service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Jim Sanders; sons, Jim and Jason Sanders; sisters, Earline and Dorothy; and brother, Edward Sanders.

Leon Sanders is survived by his wife, Yong Cha Sanders; children, Sandra Fisher (Danny) and Dorothy Afoah (Emmanuel); sisters, Ann Madison of Norman, Okla., Wanda Sanders of Fort Worth and Patricia Carey of Arlington. He will be missed and loved by all, especially his grandchildren that he doted upon, and his nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, which is in charge of arrangements.
