Celebration of life services for Luther A. Carpenter Sr., 80, of Killeen, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at East Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John C. Hallum officiating. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Carpenter died March 23, 2014. He was born May 18, 1933, in Woodford, Vt., to the late Henry and Ruth (Lorette) Carpenter.

He married the love of his life, Laura Osborne, in Quanah on June 5, 1954. Luther enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving 20 years before retiring in 1973.

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his loving wife, Laura of Killeen; children, Deborah Woodward and her husband, Mark, of Vermont, Dianne “Jake” Rock and her husband, Thomas, of Killeen, Betty “Kitten” Gorman and her husband, John, of Alabama, Sally Garrett and her husband, Rick, of Killeen and Luther “Mack” Carpenter Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Copperas Cove; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
