Funeral services for Mercedes A. Brown, 78, of Killeen, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with the Rev. Willie Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown died Oct. 12, 2013, at a Chicago hospital. She was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Tarpon Springs, Fla.

She married Charles Brown in 1955, and moved to Killeen in the late ’50s.

Mrs. Brown worked for the Paxton House at Fort Hood for 15 years, then as a teacher for the Killeen Independent School District at Pershing Park, Clifton Park and many other elementary schools and Harker Heights High School.

Survivors include her husband, Charles I. Brown of Killeen; daughters, Selda Wells of Oak Park, Ill., and Hester Ann Brown of Killeen; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 1100 W. 45th St. Austin, TX 78756.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
