A prayer service for Michael E. “Mike” Honts, 72, of Belton, will be at 7 p.m. today at Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton.

Mr. Honts died Jan. 9, 2014, in a Temple hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Everett Eugene Honts and Edetta Jay (Gerth) Honts.

He married Rosanna Emrick on Aug. 12, 1972, in SHAPE, Belgium. He retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service as a cartographer. He was a member of the Leon Valley Golf Course where he served as treasure for several years.

Mr. Honts was preceded in death by two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Rosanna Honts of Belton; brothers, David Dean Honts of Salado; Don Schmelzer of Muscatine, Iowa, and Jerry Schmelzer of Cabot, Ark.; and sisters, Carol Ann Miller and Linda Joy Fry, both of Muscatine, Iowa.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today, before and after the time of prayer, at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, which is in charge of arrangements.
