Funeral services for Midoriko (Dori) Evans, 84, of Killeen, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1410 S. Second St., in Killeen with Bishop Michael R. Lower officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Mrs. Evans died Jan. 12, 2013. She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Tokyo, Japan, to the late Heizaburou and Hanako Ishikawa Koiso. After meeting William O. Evans Jr. on a blind date at the USO, they married on May 4, 1953, in Japan and then moved to the U.S.
She worked for the Fort Hood club system, retiring in 2007 from the Officers’ Club. Helping anyone and everyone was her pastime. It never mattered if the person in need was family, friends or someone she never met before, she wanted to extend her hand. She loved to shop but most of all she loved spending time with her family, watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all activities from school to sporting events.
Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Charles and Judith Evans of Michigan, Doreen and Max McConnell of Copperas Cove, Teri and Marven Vodrey of Killeen, William Evans of the Dominican Republic and Debra E. and Junior Odom of Killeen; two sisters, Akiko Watanabe and Yumiko Kanno, both of Japan; 12 grandchildren, Shala Fondren, Cheri O’Braden and her husband, Eric, Scott Vodrey, Shaun Alford, Nikki Gile, Colton Odom, Austin Evans, Madison Odom, Wyatt Odom, Ben Vodrey, Cooper Evans and Christopher Vodrey; six great- grandchildren, Gavin Alford, Bethany Wille, Kaitlin Fondren, Emily O’Braden, Caleb Gile and Rylee Gile.
Memorials may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, 5501 S. Clear Creek Road, Killeen, TX 76549 or the charity of your choice.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements. Offer condolences at www.harpertalasekfh.com.
