A private service for Patricia Marie Wheeler, 89, of Copperas Cove, will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kingston, N.Y.

Mrs. Wheeler died Oct. 7, 2013, at the Hill Country Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Copperas Cove. She was born July 12, 1924, in Kingston, N.Y., to the late John R. Sr. and Marguerite (McGuire) Rice.

For 18 years, she worked for the federal government in the departments of the Navy, health, education, welfare and agriculture. She was later employed by IBM in Kingston, N.Y., as a manager.

She was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club and a past president of the Copperas Cove Kiwanis Club.

Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by her brother, John R. Rice Jr.; and her sisters, Marjorie Geisel, Eileen Frasch, Marilyn Hurley and Maureen Rice.

Survivors include her brother, Richard Rice of Virginia; three daughters, Patricia Lane and Karen Phillips, both of North Carolina, and Joanne Mize of Texas; six grandchildren, Edward D. Kerwin of North Carolina, Daniel P. Kerwin of New York, John W. Phillips and Jeremiah Phillips of Texas, Brian K. Phillips of Georgia and Heather M. Fitzgerald of New York; three great-grandchildren, Natasha L. Kerwin and Christopher K. Kerwin, both of North Carolina, and Ryan Fitzgerald of New York; and one great-great-grandchild, Wyatt Lane Santifort of North Carolina. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc. in Kingston, N.Y., is in charge of arrangements.
