Funeral services for retired Sgt. 1st Class Ronald Eugene Deakin, 75, of Lampasas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Copperas Cove. Burial with full military honors will be at noon Friday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Mr. Deakin died Dec. 18, 2017. He was born Dec. 27, 1941 in Pekin, Ill., to the late Arthur Deakin and Vera Knaak Deakin.
Ron married Norma J. Wrench on Jan. 15, 1963, in Tumwater, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. His service included the Vietnam War and several posts including Korea, Germany, Fort Hood and many others.
Ron and Bunny’s Army travels took their family all over the world, ending in Copperas Cove, where Ron retired. He worked at Cove Lawnmower Shop, and then they became full-time RVers. He was a loving and caring father to four children. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to build and fly radio-controlled airplanes.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harold and Terry; his wife, Bunny, in 2015; and his daughter-in-law, Paula Deakin, in 2017.
He is survived by his daughters, Ronda and husband, Bobby Ellis of Zachary, La., Dorena and husband Mike Akin of Bullard, Cathy and husband Shane Knighton of Fullerton, Calif.; son, Gregory Deakin of Kempner; grandchildren, Kristin, Stacy, Nicole, Scott, Kyle, Randy, Cassandra, R.J., Cassidy, Alex and Gracelyn; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Katelyn, Amber, Tyrin and Brooklyn.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Rollins Brook Wound Care, his home health care nurses Carol and Ponice, Visiting Angels and New Century Hospice for their compassionate care and love shown to Ron.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove, which is in charge of arrangements.
