The Traveling Classic Bowling Association has ended its schedule, and for the first time the league had to have a roll-off for first place between Bowlerama Bad Company and Lake Country Heavy Hittas.

The three-game series was decided by the highest total pin count. The Heavy Hittas won the roll-off for District 2 with a series of 3,092 to 2,940.

Lake Air Strikers captured District 1 with a record of 78 wins and 66 losses. Bowlerama Men of War finished second just 1½ games back.

The TCBA Championship will be held at Clear Lake Lanes and AMF Alfa Lanes in Webster on May 18-20. Bowlerama Men of War, Bowlerama Bad Co, Pro Tech Plumbing, Kings Court and Bowlerama Knights will be going as wild-card teams.

While standing at the desk at Killeen Bowlerama last week, I noticed a trophy behind the counter and asked Josh Maxson what it was and it turned out to be a beautiful award to the association from the BPAA as the Association of the Year.

Our association has won several awards and, unfortunately, they are not well displayed for everyone to see. It's time the association worked with local sponsors, conducted a fundraiser and purchased display cases for Hallmark Lanes and Bowlerama to properly display any and all association awards.

On a personal note, this marks my 25th year of writing a weekly bowling column for the Daily Herald. It hardly seems possible. I am told by many that I am the only bowling writer with a continuous weekly column in the state.

I have enjoyed bringing bowling news to the community.

Having served many years on the Association and having bowled in all the centers, I have had the opportunity to make so many friends and continue to compete with many in the senior leagues.

Win Cockrell, former owner of Killeen Bowlerama, once told me, "I have a special place in my heart for the seniors."

I understand that statement now. The senior leagues are the most fun I have had in bowling.

At age 73, I doubt I will write Spare Time for 25 more years, but I will write it as long as I can and as long as the Herald will have me.

Twenty-five years - Silver Anniversary - whoda thunk it?

See you on the lanes.
