You might say “Downtown” came uptown Thursday night at Texas Thunder Speedway.
“Downtown” Chris Brown, from Cleveland in East Texas, came from behind to win the United States Modified Touring Series modified feature race, taking the first leg of the Red River Shootout series.
Brown had trailed Waxahachie’s Tristan Dykes and Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, N.M., early in the race, but muscled his Ford-powered No. 21 past the leaders 18 laps into the 40-lap feature and was able to hold off Scott the rest of the way.
“Stormy gave me an inch when I needed it,” Brown said of his right-side pass to the top spot. “Things kind of worked out our way. ... I’ll take it.”
The Limited class feature had several local IMCA Southern SportMods in the field, with Killeen’s J.P. Dowell, Gatesville driver Sid Kiphen and Belton’s G.W. Egbert IV either leading or pressuring for the lead during the 25-lap A-Main. In the end, Austin Theiss of Hockley took the checkered flag.
