Phantom Warrior Lanes will host a scratch tournament on Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. with entries closing fifteen minutes prior. Entry forms are available in each center and online at bowlkilleenforthood.org. Entry forms will be available at the tournament site as well. The cost is $30 per person. Brackets and high pots will be offered.

Brackets will be offered with the winnings going to the Bowler’s Smart Scholarship Fund.

The Annual Awards Banquet and Christmas party will be held Dec. 7, starting at 6 p.m. at American Legion 223, 208 S. Park Street in Killeen. Michna’s Barbeque is catering this year and will be providing brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad, cole slaw, home baked bread, and iced tea. The association will be providing cake for dessert. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and are available from any board member.

We will be collecting new unwrapped toys for kids, canned foods and non-perishable food items.

There will be the annual gift raffle and the raffling of our special gift basket. Tickets for the gift basket are on sale now from any board member.

There will be a professional photographer available at the banquet to record your favorite pictures.

Pete Schrippa Jr. will be the master of ceremonies and he and Misty Cina will be providing the evening’s music and karaoke entertainment.

Included in the awards portion will be awards for bowler of the year, senior bowler of the Year and youth bowlers of the year.

The Greater Killeen-Fort Hood USBC Association Open Tournament had 31 teams, 60 doubles, 120 singles, 93 all-events handicap and 31 all-events scratch.

Recently I was approached by a bowler who claimed the reason for so few entries was because it was held on Fort Hood and it’s difficult to get on post. That excuse just doesn’t work for me. First, the association is the Killeen-Fort Hood Association which means we share tournaments with the civilian houses and Fort Hood.

Secondly, the vast majority of the association is military or military retirees and it only takes one ID card per car to get in the gate. Most of the teams had at least one ID card carrier on their roster.

So using Fort Hood access as the problem, well, that dog won’t hunt.

The Centex Men’s Travel League will be at Mel’s Lone Star Lanes on Sunday. The current standings have Lake Air Wrangles in first place in District 1 with a record of 23.5 wins and 16.5 losses.

Second place is Bowlerama Men of War just a half point back at 23-16.

District 2 has Max Attack Pro Shop on top with a 23-17 record. In second place is Lake Air Strikers at 21-19.

Josh Maxson has the high average of 220 for 18 games. Mark Morgan carries a 212 average for 27 games.

I hope everyone had a great Veterans Day. Let’s remember to support our troops and the veteran men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

See you on the lanes.
