The Greater Killeen-Fort Hood USBC Association works hard to keep our members informed about association business. One of the ways they do that is by publishing a monthly newsletter, maintaining an association website, and linking to Facebook.
Obtaining information for the newsletter can be difficult, primarily because association members don’t provide it.
Here are a few tidbits of importance from the last two months newsletters.
HARVEST BOWL — Sept. 29 at Phantom Warrior Lanes — 3-6-9 alibi tournament open to all youth and all adult bowlers. Enter as a team or individually. There must be at least one youth and one adult on each team. Cost is $12 for each bowler. Squad times are noon and 3 p.m. Donations are being accepted for a raffle, as well as a bake sale to be held during the tournament. This is an annual event, with proceeds going toward team entries in the local youth city tournament held in February.
There will be a Youth Leaders meeting on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at Killeen Bowlerama. Anyone interested in learning leadership skills and learning how to support the Greater Killeen-Fort Hood USBC youth programs can come out and see what they are all about. There will be an election of officers for the upcoming year. All youths are encouraged to attend and participate, but only youths 12 and up are able to run for the board of directors. Youth leaders meet and are responsible for: planning the youth tournaments, awards banquet and assisting at adult tournaments. If you are interested, see your youth director or contact Melissa Fletcher at email@example.com.
Again this year, each league has been assigned a board member to serve as your league representative to assist as necessary. The board members are here to serve the bowlers. The league representative should have attended your league meeting. If you have any questions feel free to contact your league representative, Suzie Wollek, association manager, or Connie White, association president. The league representatives are listed in the yearbook that is located at the front desk of each bowling center. Wollek can be contacted by phone at (254) 518-1529 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. White can be contacted by phone at 554- 3735 or cellphone 291-3873, and by email at email@example.com. We strive to have the best association in the nation.
The Open Tournament will be Nov. 3-4 and 10-11, with the team event at Hallmark Lanes and doubles and singles at Killeen Bowlerama. Entries close Oct. 21 and entry forms are available at each center or at www.bowlkilleenforthood.com.
Please help out the association in the publication of the newsletter by providing information for consideration.

PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber is ready to join the PBA50 Tour after celebrating his 50th birthday on Aug. 21.
Weber, the winner of 35 PBA Tour titles (fourth on the all-time list) and a record 47 PBA Regional titles, is the only player in history to win five U.S. Open titles. He has bowled in 726 PBA Tour tournaments in a career that began at age 17 in 1979.
Weber, who will begin his 34th season as a PBA Tour competitor when the PBA World Series of Bowling IV gets under way Nov. 2-11 in Las Vegas, is expected to make his debut on the newly renamed PBA50 Tour (formerly the PBA Senior Tour) in the spring of 2013. Next year’s PBA50 Tour schedule will be unveiled in the fall.
Do you think a bowling tournament would be a good return on investment? A study commissioned by Visit Baton Rouge, that city’s convention and visitors bureau, has determined that the 2012 USBC Open Championships had an economic impact of $113.2 million, including $64.7 million in direct spending by the bowlers who took part in the tournament.
We may not bowl well, but we eat good and have a lot of fun.
See you on the lanes.
