To the Editor:
The late George Jones sang a song, honoring the contribution of the greats of country music, titled “Who will fill their shoes?”
As I reflect on the political landscape of Killeen, I wonder the same question.
There have been many community-minded men and women who have served faithfully by standing on the backs of the “greats” who helped build this city.
My personal list of those who have gone before, balancing their investments of time and money (yes, reaping the fruit of their labors), may not match your list; but I am grateful for men like Ted Connell, Bill Yowell, Bernie Beck, T.J Mills, Paul Goode, Gene Goodnight, Roy J. Smith, C.R. Clements, Weldon Whitis, Gary Purser and Judge Bud Duncan.
I wonder, who will fill their shoes?
