To the Editor:
Many years ago, in talking about President Nixon, Sen. Howard Baker asked, “What did the President know and when did he know it.”
Now we need to ask of Vice President Pence, What did you know and when did you know it?
Pence, as head of the White House transition team, says he was unaware that Gen. Michael Flynn was a lobbyist for Turkish businesses, had been to Moscow and had been discussing U.S.-imposed sanctions with the Russian ambassador over the invasion of Crimea.
Flynn had been paid over $500,000 by Turkey and over $45,000 by the Russians.
Flynn was still appointed as national security adviser.
Pence says that Flynn lied and that he was not aware of these foreign dealings until Feb. 8.
However, Rep. Elijah Cummings sent a letter to Pence last year on Nov. 18, informing him of Flynn’s lobbying for Turkey and the relationship between Russian individuals and Flynn.
In the fall of 2016 these relationships were also being written about in public news outlets.
The White House knew about Flynn for three weeks while he attended security meetings before firing him.
So now we know Flynn was working for foreign governments as an unregistered foreign agent. This is the What.
We also know Vice President Pence was informed of this last year. So now we know the When.
What we do not know is why Vice President Pence lied to the American People about what and when he knew. We await the truth.
