To the Editor:

In a gesture smacking of political back-rubbing, Sen. John Cornyn signed a circulating letter to Dan Ashe, director, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, dated Nov. 13, 2013, stating he was (1) a “strong supporter” of the Service’s proposal to remove federal protection of gray wolves nationwide, and (2) “opposed to the provision” that would list the Mexican wolf as an endangered sub-species.

Texas congressional Reps. Kevin Brady, Mike Conaway, Bill Flores, Kenny Marchant, Randy Neugebauer, Pete Sessions, Steve Stockman, and Randy Weber also signed this letter.

With only 75 in the wild in Arizona and New Mexico, and only three breeding pairs, Mexican gray wolves, or Lobos, are quite literally teetering on the brink of extinction.

By signing this letter, these politicians have demonstrated incredible ignorance and a total lack of human compassion for the world’s most endangered wolves.

In six states where ESA protections have already been completely removed, wolves are aggressively hunted.

Wolf numbers are in decline, even without the USFWS’s proposal.

I attended the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s public hearings in Denver and Albuquerque and was among the speakers overwhelmingly opposed to the service’s two proposals.

The politicians who signed this letter do not speak for most of us. Obviously, they have nothing better to do in Washington than to gang up on these animals who are already struggling to survive.

Mexican Gray wolves used to live in Texas too, but gee, now they are only found in zoos here. And yes, Waldo is correct, there are only two breeding pairs left in the wild. He is an activist and has done his research... Wolves are not edible, and they are only being hunted for sport and trophies. Do your own research!

Belton's leaders have hornswoggled the taxpayers, funneled money to their areas for new infrastructure, improved areas around their tax-exempt connections, neglected dangerous public hazards, profited from their political positions of office - literally, lied to the taxpayers and rob them, shown bias, preference, etc. and I am to worry about a friggn wolve? If Waldo worried about wolves - there's a bunch in Belton wearing sheepskins. Thieves they are. Where's Waldo? good grief!

Wow Don - Armchair? The man said he attended meetings in Denver and Albuquerque. What is this about taking a wolf home to his kids? Not his point, but comment on Don, comment on.

Is Senator Cronyn up for reelection ? We could use some new blood in the Senate ? and is not the GOP conservative and did not the conservatives make laws protecting animals ( remember GOP Teddy Roosevelt ?)

We need to write Senator Cornyn and ask doe he also support President Obama executive order for wind farms to be allowed to kill birds including the Federal protected American Eagle?
(the Obama media failed to report that after getting publicity for sparing the Thanks Giving Turkey .Obama then issued a order that allows all wind farms to kill all birds including the symbol of the USA the American Eagle)

And if Cornyn is supporting Obama and the green lobbyist . Then we Americans should fire both Obama and Cornyn ASAP .

Another armchair idiot who knows not what he is talking about but only operates on how he "feels." Wolves are dangerous predators and have a significant impact on livestock. If you like wolves so much take one home with you and let your kids play with them. See how that works out for you.

Obviously they dont speak for you but they do speak for me so now we are tie. Wolves regardless of type have become a problem for ranchers and homeowners and the general population. I also doubt there are only 2 mating pairs of mexican wolves
