Cove reader says letter commenting on District 59 race was misleading

To the Editor:

I take issue with Bob Schoolfield’s Feb. 22 letter to the editor. Mr. Schoolfield failed to disclose that he is the president of an Austin-based political action committee that supports vouchers. He has sent this same misleading letter to newspapers across Texas attacking other incumbents. Austin political insiders like Schoolfield have no interest in the people of House District 59; instead, they focus on extremist agendas and disregard facts.

Experience in other states has proven that funneling public money to the private sector for education is not cost-effective. Our public schools are already underfunded. “School choice” (e.g. vouchers and other privatizing mechanisms) will only exacerbate that problem.

The future of public education and 4,800,000 Texas public school children is at stake. The future of 1,300,000 retired teachers is at stake. Our children are our most precious resource. Please make public education a priority and cast your vote.
