To the Editor:

In Sunday’s paper (Dec. 30) there was an article regarding the ban of adoptions from Russia. I don’t understand why some people pay thousands of dollars to an adoption broker for adoptions overseas.

As an adoptive/foster parent, I see the numbers of children who are available for adoption in Texas.

I have adopted from Texas DFPS, and it’s very gratifying placing a child in your home that needs a “forever” home.

You can visit the TARE website that lists hundreds of children in Texas who need homes.

The adoptions that are handled by Texas DFPS are a very simple process, and a majority of the time, the fees are paid by the state.

In closing, I would like to say look locally for a child to give a “forever” home to instead of looking abroad.

Excellent pick for a letter to the editor. If only all the foster kids could find a forever home and know what it's like to have a family that cares. Thanks to the author for bringing this to attention.
