To the Editor:

This is in reference to Kevin Tinker’s quest to make us vegetarians. This is Texas. We like barbecue, beef, hot dogs, hamburgers. Your chances of making any significant number of Texans vegetarians are slim and none.

The “driving force behind virtually every major category of environmental damage now threatening the human future: deforestation, erosion, fresh water scarcity, air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, social injustice, the destabilization of communities, and the spread of disease” IS GOVERNMENT!

Government has caused social injustice through their greed and power. Their “redistribution of wealth” has been leaving people homeless and hungry for centuries… because they always run out of other people’s money.

Government will choose to stand by “Environmentalist” to protect Smelt over the livelihood of farmers and putting food on family’s tables. They will put relentless restrictions on small businesses until they are forced to close just to support the greed of companies like Monsanto and then try to put blame on everything else but their own doing.

Government has destabilized communities with over-burdening regulations, taxes and eminent domain.

Every time the Government creates a problem they grow a new tentacle to solve it!

I don’t know… if I were you, I would lobby the Chinese Government. After all, they do have all our “air and water polluting” factory jobs. And, they are the largest contributor of CO2 with almost twice the emissions of the US... and rising. (The US has actually seen a decrease. Must be because we don’t have all those factories any more and with the loss of jobs combined with high gas prices we're probably not traveling as much, either.) Oh, and I hear China’s meat consumption is twice that of the USA… Yeah, that’s where I would start for maximum impact!

Yeah Dude, I hear this from the not meat eating crowd but you people can never explain the Global Warming on Mars? How many SUV’s and cows are on Mars? Explain that then I’ll stop eating a BEEF hamburger and some bacon once in awhile.

"A 1% reduction in world-wide meat intake has the same benefit as a three trillion-dollar investment in solar energy." ~ Chris Mentzel, CEO of Clean Energy

"As environmental science has advanced, it has become apparent that the human appetite for animal flesh is a driving force behind virtually every major category of environmental damage now threatening the human future: deforestation, erosion, fresh water scarcity, air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, social injustice, the destabilization of communities, and the spread of disease." Worldwatch Institute, "Is Meat Sustainable?"

"The livestock sector emerges as one of the top contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. The findings of this report suggest that it should be a major policy focus when dealing with problems of land degradation, climate change and air pollution, water shortage and water pollution, and loss of biodiversity. The impact is so significant that it needs to be addressed with urgency." UN Food and Agricultural Organization's report "Livestock's Long Shadow"

“If every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetables and grains... the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than half a million cars off of U.S. roads.” Environmental Defense Fund

“It’s not a requirement to eat animals, we just choose to do it, so it becomes a moral choice and one that is having a huge impact on the planet, using up resources and destroying the biosphere.” ~ James Cameron, movie director, environmentalist and new vegan

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." ~ Albert Einstein

It's the "vegans" that are responsible for "global warming" by destroying plants that absorb carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.

Cows eat plants AND release methane gas so meat eaters are actually helping save the environment by killing two birds with one stone!

You’re so right, I also post facts but they never respond. We will probably get another letter always do before a major holiday. I believe some of these vegetarians have a mental disorder because they are so obsessed with other peoples eating habits—they should seek help.

This guy has been pushing his leftist agenda for years. If you want to be a vegetarian okay. Don't try and force it on me though. Every time I read one of his diatribes another cow dies because I go buy a steak!

    Warning to letter writer-
You left out Turkey as a meat of choice for Texas citizens or citizens through out the country for their Thanksgiving meal.
With Thanksgiving coming upon us sooner then we think, Be prepared, to have to defend yourself and the eating of this bird as your right as an Free American citizen. [smile]
