To the Editor:

I am writing about a recent front-page article in the Herald concerning Killeen ISD’s proposed health centers at four middle schools, aimed at serving underinsured and uninsured students.

Two of the schools listed, Smith and Audie Murphy, are located at Fort Hood, where the majority of the students are military dependents who have free health care coverage because of their parents’ employment and where access is burdensome to nonmilitary families.

I don’t understand the rationale.

It would appear to me that the locations of the centers would be better needed in areas of low-income households elsewhere in our community.

The writer doesn't understand the rationale?
Is there ever any rationale by KISD? It's all about a big federal and state money gab.

Why are the Centers only for Middle School Students?
Are there not High Shool studends that are not insured? These Health Care Centers should be not implemented by KISD, they should be part of the Medicaid plan that covers the uninsured. KISD should worry about education and not Health Care.
Medicaid is designed to cover those who are not insured just like the free Clinic downtown.
