To the Editor:

An open letter to Debbie Nash-King:

Congratulations on your election to the Killeen City Council. The voters of your council district have entrusted confidence in you. Now the experience of governance begins.

I wish you well as you exercise God’s gift of discernment in synergizing with the other council members. You will be challenged to balance the expressed needs and wishes of your district with the same for the entire city.

Trust the city staff, but verify their requests with questions of what and why. Many well-meaning people will seek your attention and influence.

Listen, but don’t promise anything except to seek to govern wisely. Some will criticize the decisions you make. Remember the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: “No one can make you angry without your permission.”

Enjoy the ride!
