To the Editor:
The cost of President Trump going to the Southern White House (Mar-a-Lago) from Friday to Sunday is $3.6 million of our tax dollars. The cost of Melania Trump in Trump Tower for three days is $492,000 of our tax dollars. This is a total of $4,092,000 of your tax dollars spent for just three days. There is an organization in Central Texas that feeds 70 elderly citizens per day and each of those meals cost $7.
If that $4,092,000 were spent feeding the hungry, we could feed those 70 elderly people for 8,350 days or almost 23 years. At $7 per meal, that would be equivalent to feeding 584,570 elderly citizens for one day.
The White House Budget Director, Mick Mulvaney, said that he is aware the new health care bill would hurt children and keep them from having access to nutritional food from some organizations. However, in an interview with a reporter, he said, “I don’t have a business card to give to you today, John, because at the Office of Management and Budget, we have to pay for our own business cards. So it does start at home, but it’s already started.”
I guess paying for business cards is an equal comparison with food for the elderly and children. Mr. Mulvaney was formerly a U.S. congressman, and in 2014, his personal wealth was estimated to be $2,600,000.
