Reader says sympathy for Hoffman misplaced; treat actor as example

To the Editor:

It seems like everyone is going on about what a shame it is about the actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I don’t get it.

We are supposed to feel sorry for someone who had 50 bags of heroin in his apartment and a needle sticking out of his arm when they found him?

It should have been “don’t be like Hoffman,” not “the poor guy got slammed.”
