To the Editor:

Once again Tim Orwig has published a wonderful historical article (feature on Lincolnville, June 19 KDH).

The Coryell County community of Lincolnville was deservedly recognized as an important step between slavery and acceptance into a free world by the former slaves of Coryell and surrounding counties.

The residents of this community and their ancestors who still live in the Gatesville area have always been good and respected citizens, and I am very appreciative of the article, which tells their story of struggle and ultimate success.

Of all the newspapers in our area, I think the Killeen Daily Herald is the only one to commemorate the important occasion of Juneteenth.

Thank you for your fine article and for your paper’s continued support of the history of our area.
