To the Editor:

Dear employees of the Killeen Daily Herald: Happy New Year and thank you very much for your recent donation of pet food, treats, blankets and cleaning supplies to our Texas Humane Heroes Killeen Adoption Center (formerly the Second Chance Animal Shelter). The staff of the Killeen Daily Herald has given us outstanding support for many years and we deeply appreciate it.

As you know, our merger last January of the Centex Humane Society here in Killeen with the Humane Society of Williamson County in Leander to form the Texas Humane Heroes has had tremendous success. This past year alone we adopted out more than 3,000 companion animals — a new record. More than 90 percent of these animals came from kill shelters throughout Central Texas to include the local municipal shelters and Fort Hood.

Your donations will help enable us to provide food, shelter and essential health care to our animals — and get them adopted out to “forever homes” — thousands of animals in the last five years that would never have had a “second chance” without us and your support.

With your help we will continue to work hard, both volunteers and dedicated staff, to save and care for as many companion animals as we can.
