The mixture of cold temperatures and precipitation, once again, forced the cancellation of area sporting events Tuesday night.

After the Killeen ISD Centex Soccer Shootout's second day was canceled Saturday, Mother Nature threw another wrench into the schedule by keeping players off the hard court as several area basketball games were postponed.

In District 13-5A (boy's and girl's teams) A&M Consolidated, Belton, Bryan, Shoemaker, Harker Heights and Temple were supposed to be in action, while Ellison had the night off. Killeen and Copperas Cove's (boys and girls) District 16-4A matchup was also canceled due to bad weather.

Harker Heights coach Celneque Bobbitt, whose Knights were scheduled to play the Temple Wildcats, said he wasn't sure when the games will be rescheduled.

"You never know what the weather is going to be like in Killeen, Texas, until you look out the window," Bobbitt said. "I've heard rumors of possible Thursday or Saturday games, but nothing has been set in stone."

Tuesday's high school bowling matches in Killeen between Lampasas and Harker Heights, and Copperas Cove and Ellison were also canceled because of weather.

High school athletes weren't the only ones affected by the ice and rain as the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's and women's basketball games for Tuesday and Thursday were postponed and rescheduled. Last night's men's game against Concordia-Austin has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Mayborn Campus Center, while the men's and women's Thursday doubleheader against Sul Ross State in Alpine has been moved to 4:30 p.m. (women) and 6:30 p.m. (men) Jan. 22.
