The future looks bright for the Lampasas tennis team.

So does the present.

A young Badger team claimed two championships at the District 25-3A tournament Thursday at Llano to go along with two second-place finishes and a third. This comes after Lampasas finished third at the Region IV-3A tournament during team tennis in the fall.

“Next year, in team tennis and individual, we plan on hopefully cleaning some house,” Lampasas head coach Kenneth Peiser said.

Sophomore Chris Monroe swept his way to the boys singles’ final and knocked off Taylor Hayden Wilkins 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

In girls doubles, junior Katie Shaw and sophomore MacKenzie Denton took first place, beating their teammates 6-3, 7-5 in the finals. Junior Ashley Houston and sophomore Emily Bever also head to regionals as the runners-up.

Juniors Zach Holcomb and Alex Morua finished second in boys doubles, falling to a Burnet pair 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 that qualified for regionals last year.

In addition, junior Cheyenne Morrow reached the finals before losing and falling in the playback match. She’ll be an alternate for the region meet, set for Apr. 20-21 at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi.
