Belton wins two at Round Rock Stony Point tournament

ROUND ROCK — Belton won two games Thursday on the first day of the Round Rock Stony Point tournament.

Jared Janczak (2-0) struck out 14 in a complete-game, two-hit shutout as the Tigers beat Austin Lake Travis 3-0 in the opener.

Jacob Alexander’s two-run, inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning highlighted Belton’s 5-1 win over Stony Point in the nightcap. Colton Boyd (2-0) got the win.

The Tigers (5-3) return to action with two games today. They play Round Rock Westwood at 4 p.m. and Austin Westlake at 7.

SOFTBALL

TC opens conference play with two losses to McLennan

WACO — Temple College began NTJCAC play with a pair of losses to McLennan Community College on Thursday.

The Lady Leopards lost 4-3 in the opener with Stephanie Flores (11-1) taking the loss. Briana Knowles went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for TC.

McLennan topped TC 9-1 in Game 2 with Clarissa Gonzalez (0-1) taking the loss.

The Lady Leopards (14-5) return home for a non-conference doubleheader against Howard College on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at Danny Scott Sports Complex.

Belton opens tourney with win

BELTON — The Belton Lady Tigers opened their tournament with an 8-2 victory over Celina on Thursday at Lady Tiger Field.

No other information was reported.

Belton (6-7) continues the event with games today against West at noon and Brock at 4 p.m.
