Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Macy Moore earned American Southwest Conference Player of the Week honors for helping lead the Lady Crusaders to three wins Jan. 7-11.

Moore scored a career-high 28 points Jan. 9 against Texas-Tyler. On Jan. 11, she had a game-high six assists against Ozarks. On Jan. 7, Moore scored 12 points, had three steals and dished three assists against Concordia.

“I feel very honored and blessed with this award,” said Moore, a 5-7 junior guard. “It’s a huge deal to me. I’m very grateful.”

In Moore’s 28-point performance against Tyler, she was 6 for 6 from 3-point land.

“I had no idea that I’d hit all my 3-pointers until I was told after the game,” said Moore. “I was just in the flow of the game.”

For the season, Moore is hitting a sizzling 44 percent of her 3-point attempts.

“Well,” said Moore with a chuckle, “that 6 for 6 night helped that percentage a lot.”

Moore has been comfortable shooting from long distance for quite a while.

“From my sophomore year in high school on, shooting the 3 was my strongest point,” Moore said. “In my senior year (when Moore had 97 treys), hitting the long-range shot was pretty much all that I did. Now I feel I’m a much more well-rounded player.”

And those six assists against Ozarks bears that out.

“Credit for all those assists go to my teammates,” Moore said. “An assist isn’t an assist without the finish. I have so much confidence in passing the ball to all of my teammates.”

Moore and the Lady Crusaders are on a hot streak. After a sluggish start to the season, UMHB is riding a five-game winning streak and is 7-3 in conference play.

As for this recent turnaround, Moore said, “I think it’s just all of us having confidence in each other now and we’re believing in each other. We’re just going with the flow and taking one possession at a time.”

The Lady Crusaders are on the road Thursday to face University of Texas at Dallas. On Saturday, UMHB travels to Abilene to face Hardin-Simmons.

Moore is optimistic about the Lady Crusader’s future.

“We can go far in the playoffs,” she said. “What’s interesting is that in the preseason rankings, we were projected as the ninth team in the conference. Now we’ve bumped that up to fourth. I really believe this team has great potential.”
