ALPINE — Mary Hardin-Baylor scored the final four points of regulation to force overtime but managed only three points in the 5-minute extra session, falling 83-77 to Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon.

It was the fourth loss in the last six games for the Crusaders (9-8, 7-7 American Southwest), who were swept in the regular-season series with the Lobos (8-9, 7-7). Sul Ross won the first meeting 74-70 in Belton in early December.

With UMHB trailing 74-70 in the final minute of regulation, senior guard James Allen wrapped two perfect trips to the foul line around a defensive stop to send the game into overtime.

The Crusaders struggled in the extra period, going 0-for-6 from the field — including 0-for-4 from 3-point range. They finished 1-of-15 from beyond the arc.

Allen had 21 points, Jerard Graham 18, Kitrick Bell 16 and 12 rebounds and Antonie Chaney 13 points for UMHB, which returns home to host six of its final eight regular-season games.

The Crusaders are tied for sixth place in the ASC, with the top eight teams qualifying for the conference tournament.

Mychal Pinson scored a game-high 32 points for the Lobos, who got 19 from Percy Settle and 12 from Trey Richardson.
