TC sweeps Ranger

RANGER — Temple College pounded out 23 hits and got the pitching it needed to snap a four-game skid with a doubleheader sweep of Ranger, winning 13-6 and 9-5 on Friday.

The Leopards (18-13, 3-7 Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference) scored eight runs over the first four innings of the opener. It was more than enough support for starter Cody Wolf (5-2), who made it through the fifth before relievers Jared Hart and Nick Mendivil closed it out.

Temple scored twice in the opening frame of the finale and never trailed, getting a six-inning effort from starter Ryan Keesee (3-2) before Jacob Little and Kernie Baker took care of things the rest of the way.

“We swung the bats OK, pitched OK and the defense was good enough. We’re trying to get back to .500 in the conference, so we’ll take wins any way we can get them,” said Leopards coach Craig McMurtry, whose team hosts Ranger for a twin bill at 1 p.m. Monday. “Any time you can win two games on the road, it was a pretty god day.”
