RICHARDSON — Mary Hardin-Baylor knocked off No. 13 Trinity 25-16, 24-26, 25-19, 25-16 Saturday to wrap up the season-opening Texas-Dallas tournament.

Abby Voskuil had 14 kills, Bianca Patterson 12 and Lauren Powell 11 for the Lady Crusaders (3-0), who got 42 assists from Shelby Prather and 20 digs from Powell.

UMHB is in action again at 5 p.m. Friday against the host team in the Cal Lutheran tournament in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Crusaders drop soccer season opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Mary Hardin-Baylor could not hold a 1-0 lead and dropped a 2-1 decision to Occidental in its season opener Saturday at Colorado College.

Nathaniel Fagnant chipped in UMHB’s goal in the 10th minute off a Caleb Latson assist. Morgan Bennett-Smith tied the game in the 15th minute and Occidental (2-0) went ahead for good on a Grayson Burden goal in the 64th minute.

Fagnant had a team-high three shots, but UMHB was out-shot 17-9. Javier Zaragoza and Blake Lander split time in goal for UMHB. Zaragoza made seven saves and allowed one goal in the first half and Lander made four saves and allowed a goal in the second. UMHB plays at Colorado College at 3 p.m. today.
