HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Temple rallies past Rudder
BRYAN — Temple scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night and defeated Bryan Rudder 4-2 in District 18-5A.
The victory snapped the Wildcats’ four-game losing streak to the Rangers that dated to the 2016 season.
Eli Mendoza struck out six in a complete-game performance on the mound to pick up his second straight league victory for Temple (10-9, 3-0).
Jared Wiley had two hits and two RBIs, and Jonathan Flores also drove in two runs.
Temple trailed 1-0 before the rally, which included key at-bats by Adrian Carlos and Justin Rumfield, Wildcats coach Toby Rumfield said.
Rudder added a run in its half of the seventh but got no closer.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Belton routs Killeen
KILLEEN — Belton charged to its third straight victory to begin District 8-6A play, blanking Killeen in an 11-0, five-inning win Tuesday night.
The Tigers (7-7-3, 3-0) host Killeen at 7 p.m. Friday.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL: UMHB sweeps Hardin-Simmons
ABILENE — Mary Hardin-Baylor swept a doubleheader with Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday, posting victories of 6-0 and 9-2 to keep the Cowgirls winless.
Hannah Halepaska (8-1) threw a three-hitter in the opener for UMHB (15-7, 10-4 American Southwest Conference), which got a home run and three RBIs from Linsey Tomlinson.
CeCe Darilek (3-4) limited Hardin-Simmons (0-22, 0-14) to six hits in the finale. Devon Walter homered and drove in three runs for the Crusaders, who finish the three-game series in Abilene at noon today.
