Temple College picks up wins

against Howard

BIG SPRING — Breanna Hernandez threw a one-hit shutout, while Madilyn Weatherly and Savanna Parker each hit a pair of home runs as the Temple College Lady Leopards handed Howard a pair of losses during a Friday doubleheader, 12-0 and 7-1.

Hernandez struck out 10 batters and walked one in five innings of work in the circle for TC (5-2) during Game 1. The Lady Leopards scored nine runs in the fourth. Parker hit two home runs and Weatherly’s homer was a grand slam.

“The girls had really good at-bats today and really attacked the ball,” Temple head coach Kristen Zaleski said. “In the first game, they drew walks and put the ball in play that resulted in errors against Howard. In the second, we did a good job of getting good at-bats with two outs.”

Temple used a five-run fourth inning to turn a 2-1 advantage into a six-run victory in Game 2. Weatherly and Daisy Gonzalez hit home runs to fuel the fourth-inning onslaught. Taylor Gruell threw seven innings and allowed one run on three hits.

The Lady Leopards travel to Odessa for a doubleheader today, starting at noon.
