HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Belton earns 8-6A’s top playoff seed
WACO — Belton knocked off Hewitt Midway 8-2 on Monday night to earn District 8-6A’s top seed for the playoffs.
The Lady Tigers (28-6-1) will face Irving Nimitz in a bi-district game at 7 p.m. Friday at a site that was still to be decided.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL: TC pushes win streak to 13
DENISON — Temple College roughed up Grayson twice in a doubleheader Monday, stretching its win streak to 13 games with victories of 16-0 and 10-0.
Madilyn Weatherly hit two home runs, and starter Dalilah Barrera (16-1) struck out four in three hitless innings of work for the Lady Leopards (36-5, 25-3 Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference) in the five-inning opener.
Tiare Lee homered, and Karina Sanchez (16-2) threw six shutout innings in the finale to help the Lady Leopards close out another sweep.
“You have to take it inning by inning and game by game, and you set goals,” Temple coach Kristen Zaleski said of keeping her players sharp. “They’re doing a good job of that.”
COLLEGE GOLF: UMHB women lead ASC tournament
AUSTIN — Mary Hardin-Baylor’s bid for an 11th conference championship got off to a solid start Monday, when the Lady Crusaders posted a 316 to grab the lead at the women’s American Southwest Conference tournament.
UMHB leads Texas-Tyler by six shots and Hardin-Simmons by nine heading into today’s final round at Avery Ranch Golf Club.
McKenna Ralston paced the Lady Crusaders with a 76 and is tied for second in the individual standings. Emily Ming (79) is tied for sixth, Cassidy Rawls sits in 10th, and Olivia Robinson (81) and Annie Hasselbach (84) completed UMHB’s card.
The ASC champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
