SANDESTIN, Fla. — Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golfer Taylor O’Rear closed with a 76 Tuesday to share the individual title at the Golfweek Division III Fall Preview.
O’Rear, a former Salado standout, finished with a three-round total of 225 to share the championship with Methodist College’s Loretta Giovannettone, who trailed O’Rear by one when the day began.
O’Rear’s 225 was a school record, six strokes better than the previous mark set by Holly Glover at the 2005 NCAA Division III National Championships.
In the team competition, 15-time defending national champion Methodist overcame an eight-shot deficit to beat UMHB by six shots. The Cru had led after the first two rounds.
The Monarchs closed with a 299 to finish at 922.
UMHB’s 928 still smashed the school 54-hole record of 959 set last season at the Jekyll Island Invitational.
Elizabeth Davis tied for fifth place for the Cru, four shots behind the leaders. Former Harker Heights standout Kelly Gonyea also finished in the top 10 at 237.
