ABILENE — The Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team battled back from an early deficit, but the comeback fell short in a 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15 loss to UT-Dallas in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The loss ended the best Division III season in the history of the Cru volleyball program.

Former Copperas Cove standout Sapphire Reid led UMHB (22-8) with 11 kills, and she added 16 digs.

The Cru set a school single-season record for victories in their Division III era, topping last year’s mark of 21.

Saturday’s loss also ended the playing careers of seniors Morgan Baker, Elise Butler, Reid and Tina Miller, another former Cove star.
