COPPERAS COVE The excitement is beginning to mount for fans of the Copperas Cove football team as the Bulldawgs are preparing for their contest against perennial power Lufkin in the Division II-5A Region II championship game, putting their finishing touches on the work week.

The team concludes its workout with a regular Thursday practice today before heading over to Wal-Mart for a city-wide pep rally.

"We have had an excellent week of practice and the kids have remained focused," head coach Jack Welch said.

Fans will have the opportunity to show their support at the pep rally tonight at 6 p.m. on the grocery side of the store. The Pride of Cove band along with the cheerleaders and Copperettes will be on hand to entertain. The quarterback club will also be on hand selling playoff sweatshirts.

Lady Dawgs continue to roll

Kim Baker's double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) led Cove to a 55-46 victory over Brownwood on Tuesday night in a nondistrict game for both teams, improving the Lady Dawgs to 11-1 on the young season.

That victory came on the heels of a 61-37 beating of Lampasas on Saturday afternoon in which Lauren Flood led all scorers with 13 points.

The Lady Dawgs are participating in the Polk Key City Classic in Abilene beginning today.

The District 13-5A season kicks off Dec. 13 with Cove hosting Bryan.

Former Bulldawg continues trip around NFL

T.J. Hollowell was put on waivers by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, just one week after they claimed him off waivers from the New York Jets. The former Nebraska and Copperas Cove linebacker has spent parts of this season with three NFL teams: the New York Giants, Jets and Dolphins.

He has seen action in six NFL games in his first two years in the league, four last season with the Giants and two this year with the Jets.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Copperas Cove defense.

The Bulldawgs defense limited Garland to four first downs and 58 total yards while shutting the Owls out in the second half of their 30-14 victory Friday night.

STATISTIC OF THE WEEK: 3, The number of incompletions that Brent Garner tossed out of his 17 passing attempts in the victory over Garland.
