The Mary Hardin-Baylor football team has already punched its ticket to the postseason, but the Crusaders still face one more hurdle before advancing to the NCAA Division III National Championships.

UMHB heads to Seguin this Saturday to face Texas Lutheran in its regular-season finale, where the Crusaders have a chance to complete its third perfect season in school history. They are currently 9-0 on the year and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference play.Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Matador Stadium. UMHB has already clinched at least a share of the ASC title and claimed the league’s automatic bid to the playoffs with its 77-13 victory over Sul Ross State last Saturday. TLU (5-4, 4-3) has clinched its first non-losing season since posting a 6-4 mark in 2006.

A Crusader win Saturday gives the program an outright ASC title, a second straight undefeated season and the likely No. 1 seed from the South Region in the postseason. With all that said, the Crusader coaches and players certainly understand the damage a loss could do.

“We have worked on getting our football team better each week and we feel like we have continued to improve throughout the season,” UMHB head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We want our team to be peaking when we get to the playoffs and we have to stay focused on our goals and what we really want to accomplish with this program. We can’t afford to look past anyone or take a week off if we plan to get where we would like to be.”

UMHB leads the all-time series with Texas Lutheran 12-1 and the Crusaders set school records for points and margin of victory in an 81-3 victory over the Bulldogs last season. TLU’s only win in the series came in a 34-24 victory over UMHB to end the 1999 season.
