BELTON Mary Hardin-Baylor is ranked first in the South Region in the first NCAA Division III Regional Ranking for the 2011 season.
Johns Hopkins is second in the South, Wesley College is third, Trinity University is fourth and UMHBs American Southwest Conference rival McMurry University is fifth. Louisiana College is ranked seventh, giving the ASC three of the top seven teams in South Region this week. The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. There will be one more regional ranking released to the public before the 32-team postseason field is announced Nov. 13.
UMHB (8-0, 6-0) can clinch the ASCs automatic bid to the playoffs and at least a share of the conference championship with a victory over Sul Ross State this weekend. The Crusaders play the Lobos at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Field.
Crus Garcia earner conference volleyball honor Mary Hardin-Baylors Anissa Garcia was named American Southwest Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 30.
The senior setter averaged over 10 assists per set over four matches for the Lady Crusaders at the Millsaps College Tournament last weekend. She finished with 162 assists and added 55 digs, four aces, three kills and two blocks.
