Coming into the season, Alayshia Hunter had the next stage of her life already planned out. After leading the Ellison Lady Eagles back to the playoffs, she'd ride off into the sunset all the way to the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

But before she makes that big leap to Division I college basketball, the 6-foot senior post will cap her prep career in style — with two all-star games. “I'm going to end strong. I'm going to go out with a bang — leaving Texas (with something that makes) them remember that little girl from Killeen, Texas,” Hunter said. “I'm just going to make sure I play hard and represent my school well.”

Hunter will play in the Texas Hall of Fame Shootout at Baylor's Ferrell Center on May 5. She'll follow that up with  the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' 4A-5A All-Star Game at Trinity in San Antonio on May 18.

“I truly wanted to make all-state, and all-region and all-district, but I really didn't think I'd get the (all-star) honors,” she said.

Named the All-District 12-5A MVP as a junior, Hunter earned all-district first team honors this past season and was selected to the All-Region II-5A team by TABC. Hunter averaged 11.2 points, 9 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.5 assists per game, including a 45-percent field goal percentage in leading the Lady Eagles (23-9) to the playoffs.
