Tuesday evening was a good night for Fred Cosper, of Killeen.

“Well, it’s always a good night when you get paid for having fun,” he said with a chuckle.

Cosper and John Guerra, of Belton, teamed up to win the first Tuesday Night Tournament of the season with a three-fish 13.66-pound bag.

“John had a good spot in mind and we went to it,” Cosper said. “Early in the season, fishing is kind of hit or miss. But if you find the right spot, you’ll have a good night and we found the right spot. We found grass — and if you find grass I think you can find the fish.”

Cosper-Guerra earned a first-place prize of $770.

James Millsap-Jody Berger took second place with 11.49 pounds and Daniel Emblen-Rich Long took third (11.45).

The weekly tournament at Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir is sponsored by Tightlines Premium Fishing Tackle.

“The first hour was great for us,” Cosper said. “We used Carolina rigs and we had our limit within about 12 minutes. And after that, we just kept catching bigger fish.

“After you get your limit, you can’t quite relax. You keep plugging away. We just stayed in the same spot the whole night and it worked out real well. The first two hours were real strong. Things didn’t slow down until the third hour.”

Cosper and Guerra, as TNT tradition dictates, will be the first boat out next week.

“Everybody knows where certain people fish, you just have to get there first,” Cosper said. “But being in the No. 1 boat next week, we have a better chance than anyone else to get to our spot first.”
