The Craig Gilbert-Dexter Thompson duo will go after the three-peat tonight at Stillhouse Hollow Lake.
Gilbert and Thompson, both of Killeen, have won the Tuesday Night Tournament the past two weeks.
“I think they’ve got a pretty good shot at pulling off the trifecta,” said Bob Gregory, sales manager of Tightlines Premium Fishing Tackle, sponsor of the event. “If anyone can pull off winning three weeks in a row, it’s Craig and Dexter.”
No team has won the TNT three consecutive times this season.
“I’m not nervous about it,” Gilbert said. “We know there’s a little bit of pressure on us now, but that’s fine. We’ve heard that over the weekend quite a few people were fishing in the area that Dexter and I usually go.”
As per custom, Gilbert-Thompson will be the first boat to leave land when Tuesday night’s event starts at 6 p.m.
“Sure, there will be people following us now,” Thompson said. “People will try and get a beat on where we want to fish. But it won’t be easy keeping up with my boat. It’s a Triton boat with a mercury outboard 250 horsepower.”
“I think four boats will follow us immediately, maybe a few more,” Gilbert said. “Some others may check out their usual spots but if they can’t get their fish, they’ll probably come by us.”
Strategically speaking, Gilbert and Thompson aren’t really keeping any secrets.
“We’re going deep,” Gilbert said. “We don’t have any inside information. It’s too hot to fish shallow. The water temperature is almost 90 degrees right now.”
Gilbert and Thompson haven’t fished this week but they have discussed the possibility of the three-peat.
“Dexter and I did say that we’re going for it,” Gilbert said. “It sure would be nice to get it.”
