Mitchell Friedman, of Woodway, and Kyle Hogg, of Hewitt, took first place in the Tuesday Night Tournament at Stillhouse Hollow Lake.
The duo won the event with a 5.64-pound bag.
“We were just working some crankbaits in the area,” Freidman said. “We found a pattern and stuck with it. We caught a lot of fish early, but they kept getting bigger as the night went on.”
Craig Gilbert and Dexter Thompson, both of Killeen, were attempting to pull off the three-peat on Tuesday but settled with “Big Bass” honors (4.28).
“It’s summertime and it’s a tough bite right now,” Friedman said. “You just have to find something that works and keep grinding it out. We just got a little lucky.”
The Friedman-Hogg team usually competes in Waco tournaments.
“Tuesday night was the first time Kyle ever competed in the Tuesday Night Tournament at Stillhouse,” Friedman said. “I’ve fished in it a lot. It’s a fun event.”
The duo fished shallow on Tuesday.
“We were having luck with Livingston crankbait lures,” Friedman said. “The crankbaits run about 3-to-5 feet deep. We were fishing in water that was 6-to-8 feet deep. We were fishing in very, very shallow water because we had found an active spot and stuck with it. Stillhouse is crystal clear. We could see the bass. We felt lucky that we had three solid fish.”
