Friday Roundup: Greene hits, pitches Dawgs past Shoemaker

Austin Greene's triple in the sixth was Copperas Cove's only hit, but it plated the game's only run and gave the Bulldawgs a 1-0 win in a pitcher's duel over visiting Shoemaker.

Matt Stoddard walked and scored when Greene hit his triple down the right-field line in the fifth. Greene and Shoemaker pitcher Elijah Hilliard combined to give up just two hits.

Greene surrendered only a single while striking out 11 and walking one for Copperas Cove (10-17, 6-7 12-5A).

Hilliard allowed only Greene's triple and also struck out 11.

A&M Consolidated 4, Harker Heights 1 - At Harker Heights, Ford Moore only gave up one hit in five innings as the Tigers kept in the hunt for the District 12-5A title with a win over the Knights.

Consolidated (17-9, 10-3 12-5A) scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning behind RBIs from Riley Ferrell and Cody Hamilton.

Tyler Keller had the only hit for Harker Heights (11-11-1, 5-8).

Florence 3, Rogers 2 - At Rogers, Colton McCorquodale threw a three-hitter and struck out eight Eagle hitters as the Buffaloes picked up the win.

Dustyn Espinoza picked up the RBI single in the seventh to win the game and added an RBI single in the sixth for Florence (12-9, 5-8 27-2A).

Temple 3, Ellison 0 - At Temple, the Wildcats cruised to the win behind Brandon Gamboa's complete-game, one-hit shutout. He tossed seven strikeouts and issued one walk in the win.

Temple's (16-13, 9-4 12-5A) Mason Hesse and Josh Cruz each had an RBI, while Keith Buhl scored two runs and stole a base. Giancarlos Perez got the lone hit for Ellison 3-24, 2-11).

Lampasas 8, Taylor 1 - At Lampasas, Cullen Singleton allowed just three hits and one earned run to give the Badgers their second district win this season.

Singleton struck out seven and walked two in the win for Lampasas (4-19, 2-7 25-3A). Justin Sooter was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Michael Metcalf was 1-for-2 with a three-run double.

Waco Midway 14, Killeen 1, 5 inn. - At Killeen, Josh Allyn scored an unearned run on Andrew Ramos' two-out double to give the Roos an early 1-0 lead, but the district champion Panthers scored three runs in the second for the lead en route to closing out their undefeated run through District 8-4A.

After finishing last year a win away from the playoffs, Killeen finished at 6-17-1 overall and 1-9 in district.

SOFTBALL

Copperas Cove 5, Harker Heights 0 - At Harker Heights, Carlee Duran was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Katelynn Stephens pitched a six-hit shutout for the Lady Dawgs and they defeated the Lady Knights.

Megan Martel and Elliana Doubleday each scored two runs for Copperas Cove (16-14, 4-10 12-5A).

Ashlyn Osborne pitched a complete game, only gave up two earned runs and added a pair of hits for Harker Heights 5-18, 2-12).

Salado 12, Llano 0, 5 inn. - At Salado, Kennedy Connell had three hits and drove in three runs while Shyenne Hicks tossed a four-hit shutout and the Lady Eagles cruised to a run-rule victory.

Hicks fanned four and allowed no other baserunners.

She was staked to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Lorna Payne singled in a run and Connell socked in two more with a double. Salado (17-11, 4-5 25-3A), eliminated from the playoff race Tuesday, added five more in the second and four in the fourth.

Lampasas 3, Taylor 2 - At Lampasas, Hadley Brown and Kady Crow each had RBIs as the Lady Badgers (20-7) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in District 25-3A. Crow also pitched a complete game, giving up only one earned run on four hits, while striking out six.

Temple 18, Shoemaker 0, 5 inn. - At Shoemaker, Lexi Smith pitched a perfect game, facing only 15 batters as the Tem-Cats (16-6, 12-2 12-5A) run-ruled the Lady Wolves.

Smith struck out 11 of the 15 batters she faced. Taylor War led the way offensively for Temple as she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored four runs.

Andelyn Irons, Samantha Pajestka and CJ Anderson added two RBIs each while combining to score four runs.

Shoemaker (1-21) finished 0-14 in District 12-5A.
