Lampasas coach Stuart Beckwith couldn't take sides.

He didn't want to and didn't need to. All he had to do was watch and smile.

Lady Badger golfers Juls Crook and Carmen Gonzales went to a playoff to determine the Region IV-3A girls golf champion Tuesday at Gabe Lozano Sr. Golf Course in Corpus Christi. "I couldn't pick a winner. It was very exciting to see," said Lady Badgers golf coach Stuart Beckwith.

He didn't need to either. Lampasas had its four qualifying scores all place in the top seven and easily won the region championship for the second straight year.

But, for the record, Crook defeated Gonzales on the first playoff hole to take the crown after Gonzales hit her tee shot into the sand. After Crook and Gonzales, Lampasas' top scorers were Lauren Beckwith, who placed fifth with an 83, and Morgan Rogers, who was seventh (85).

It was the second straight regional championship for the Lady Badgers.

"That's back-to-back regional championships. Next year we leave Region IV, though for Region I," Beckwith said. "I am going to miss it."

The Lampasas boys golf team is also making a repeat trip to the state tournament.

Behind junior Byler Lindeman, the Badgers finished second behind Fredericksburg on Tuesday to advance to state as a team.

Fredericksburg shot a 294 to win the tournament and the Badgers shot a 303 — three shots ahead of Boerne to earn the trip to state.

It was the Badgers' second lowest total of the season.

"We handled the pressure of waiting an extra day well and responded positively and it showed," said Lampasas boys coach Kyle Black. "They were all calm throughout the round. I couldn't be happier with the way we finished."

Lindeman won a playoff to get second medalist, finishing the round at 2-under par. He birdied hole No. 1 in the playoff to seal his position.

"I did not see him miss a putt inside of 10 feet all day," Black said.

Rounding out the scoring for Lampasas was freshman Blake Graham (75), senior Sterling Wright (76), sophomore Logan Irvin (82) and freshman Blake January (83).

The field was just too strong.

It would not have mattered if the Belton Tigers shot their best round of the season.

They still couldn't have topped The Woodlands or Austin Westlake.

Westlake ran away with the Region II-5A golf championships at Twin Rivers golf Course in Waco, shooting a two-day total of 583.

Belton was far off that, shooting a 636. Sophomore Andrew Paysse led Belton with a total of 152. He was followed by Nick Ratliff (158), Preston Parker (162), Zach Plunk (165) and Kyle Revis (166).

Harker Heights freshman Phillip Delsi finished ninth overall with a 147 — just missing a shot at state.

The Lady Tigers didn't fare so well on the first day of the region tournament.

They shot a team total of 371 — well off The Woodlands' pace of 301. Belton was led by Alessa Gonzales' 89.
