Behind a 232 average from Mitchell Salak, the Killeen Runnin' Roos hung on for a narrow 9-8 victory over the Shoemaker Grey Wolves at Hallmark Lanes on Monday.
Killeen then took the first two team games for a 9-2 lead before Shoemaker roared back to take the final two games and the total pins battle.
Ashley Arnett and Seth Rockwell provided the scoring punch for Killeen
while Michael Dunem, Jared Bourgeois and Anthony Garcia led Shoemaker in scoring.
Killeen evened their district record at 1-1 while Shoemaker fell to 0-2.
On the girls side, the Lady Grey Wolves (1-1) got back on track with a convincing 13-4 victory over the Lady Roos.
Led by Kaneysha Black and Ashley Shannon, Shoemaker led 5-2 after match play before taking three of the four team games.
Alexis Holmes led the Lady Roos (0-2) in scoring.
Cove boys upset Ellison, Lady Eagles stay undefeated
In a mild upset, the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs roared back from a 6-1 deficit after match play to edge the Ellison Eagles 9-8 Tuesday at Hallmark Lanes.
Drake Revels averaged 222 and Anthony Morales 195 to help the Eagles to the lead entering the team games.
But Cove averaged 201 in the team games to take three of the team games and total pins. Louis Barragan averaged 219 for Cove, but had plenty of help from Tyler Combs and Cedric Mayberry.
The Dawgs stayed unbeaten at 2-0 while the Eagles fell to 1-1.
Meanwhile, the Ellison Lady Eagles stayed unbeaten (2-0) with a 12-5 victory over the Lady Dawgs.
Brittany Evans averaged 206 while Devin Revels and Cindy Gill provided the extra punch to help Ellison to a 6-1 lead after match play.
The two teams then split the four team games with Ellison taking total pins.
Alexandria Norris and Brittney Wehmeier led Cove (1-1) in scoring.
