Lizeth Escobedo described her day as just "all right."
"All right," though, has her sitting in second place after Day 2 of the Starburst Junior Golf Classic.
Escobedo shot a 79 after an 83 on Day 1 and is currently three strokes behind Charter Lawson of Yukon, Okla., in the girls 17-and-under division, which played at White Bluffs Resort in Whitney on Tuesday.
"I had a triple bogey and that set me back a bit, but I recovered a bit on the next couple of holes," Escobedo said.
Escobedo, a Killeen native who led Temple Holy Trinity to the TAPPS 2A state title earlier this year, had a chip-in for par on the No. 9 hole and birdied No. 15.
"I got a couple of good breaks today," Escobedo said. "(To get first) I am going to have to make more of my putts and make more greens and fairways."
Currently in first is Harker Heights' Philip Delisi in the boys 14- and-under division. Delisi shot a 69 on Day 1 and a 74 at Mill Creek Golf and Country Club on Tuesday and leads the field by three strokes.
In the boys championship division, Belton sophomore-to-be Andrew Paysse is currently in 12th place at 10-over par.
Paysse shot an 8-over at Ridgewood Country Club on Day 1 and was 2-over at Twin Rivers Golf Club on Day 2.
Drew Dewald of Copperas Cove is in seventh place in the boys 15-and- under division with back-to-back 77s - the first day at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course and the second day at Ridgewood.
Stonetree Golf Club hosted the boys' 11 and 12 divisions on Day 1, and girls 16-and-under on Day 2 and hosts the boys 13-and-under and the girls 11-14 divisions as play finishes today.
