Pitching was ahead of the hitting Monday between Salado and Lorena.

But the Leopards found just enough offense to beat the visiting Eagles, 3-2. The teams, however, combined for 25 strikeouts.

"On our part, I felt we were just taking too many pitches," Salado head coach Melvin Bates said.

The Eagles (0-1) struck out 14 times (eight looking). Five different Eagles pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.

Salado cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning as Cason Kleypas singling home Taylor Rudduck. Bubba Luna finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Hutto 2, Copperas Cove 1 - At Hutto, Chris Burroughs struck out nine and allowed three hits for the Bulldawgs, but Hutto picked up runs in the first and second innings to give itself the cushion it needed.

Cove (0-1) led early, getting a Ty Johnson single to score Warren Neely. Johnson had one of the Dawgs' four hits, with Tyler Overocker finishing 2-for-3.

Clifton 6, Gatesville 5 - At Clifton, the Cubs won with a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh after a throwing error and walk brought the winning run to the plate.

Gatesville scored all of its runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Tyler English and Tyler Craycraft each had two-run singles in the inning.

SOFTBALL

Crawford 6, Gatesville 5 - At Crawford, the Hornets overcame a first inning where they committed four errors, but Crawford won with a walk-off single.

Crawford took a 4-2 lead in the first inning before Gatesville (5-2) picked up a run in the third and two more in the fifth. Allison Aslin provided the big hit, doubling off the wall to score both Ashley Cook and Lauren Nichols.

Lorena 13, Salado 3, 5 inn. - At Lorena, the Lady Leopards finished with 15 hits to go with seven Salado errors for the win.

The Lady Eagles picked up a first-inning run when Sheyenne Hicks singled home Camryn Bintz. They added two more in the fifth. Bintz and Kori Norman each had two hits.
