Any number of things could have derailed Artrez Price’s future in college football.

The Killeen senior defensive end felt blessed his hard work was allowed to culminate with his signature on a National Letter of Intent to play for Stephen F. Austin in the fall Wednesday in a National Signing Day ceremony at the Killeen High gym.

“One part of me feels like I deserve it,” Price said. “I’ve done a lot of things to get where I’m at today and worked my tail so I can get here. But, the other part says I’m very blessed, I’m humble, glad that I made it. “Obstacles could’ve came in the way to where maybe I shouldn’t have made it, but I’m here.”

Price, an all-district first team selection, had 11 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 20 pressures and a team-high four fumble recoveries for the Roos, who allowed a District 8-4A  and area-best 249 yards per game.

But the 6-foot-3, 225-pound end said everything from injuries to simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time could’ve prevented him from playing for the Football Championship Subdivision Lumberjacks in the fall.

“I’ve got to keep my head on straight, which I’ve done fairly well over the past few years; My grades are good, but I’ve got to stay on top of those,” Price said. “They’re just things that I need to do to make sure I make it through every day.”
